Exhibition

A Thousand Prayers / (on the Camino Frances)

May 16 – May 26 2024

Curl Curl Creative Space, 105 Abbott Road, North Curl Curl

Last year my husband and I walked 1000 kilometres along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, crossing the 1000th kilometre in the last hour of the last day of the pilgrimage. Each kilometre I recorded a ‘prayer’ – an observation, a gratitude, a wish – to honour that moment. As I walked, I invited others to join me, so in the end, I had a thousand prayers from pilgrims around the world. Some prayers were simple and others profound, all emerging from stories of loss, love, joy, pain, resilience, humour, and friendship. This exhibition weaves images from the Camino and these prayers into an installation of pastel works on paper, silks in botanical dyes with coloured thread, and film, creating a layered experience inspired by this life transforming walk. Come be inspired.

Camino de Sydney (talk by founders) Saturday May 25th 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Did you know that Australia hosts a handfull of its own Caminos? Come hear a talk on one from the amazing people who developed them. The 29-day Camino de Sydney, which passes by the front door of the Curl Curl Creative space, was developed by Brent Clark during Covid when he and his then fiancé, Giselle, were not able to travel to Spain. Hear about their engaging story, and yes, (tears well up) his proposal to her on the last leg.
